Online application system for police posts gets huge response

The initiative of online applications for the posts of police constables has drawn a very good response from all over Maharashtra.

Mumbai: The initiative of online applications for the posts of police constables has drawn a very good response from all over Maharashtra.

Recruitment for 17,000 posts is almost completed, barring Mumbai, because the number of applications were much higher, Principal Secretary (Home) Medha Gadgil said.

She said that from this year, the interview system of aspirants has been done away with. "The test papers for written examination have only objective questions. The subjective questions like essays have been stopped. The photocopies of answer sheets were given back to candidates," Gadgil said.

She said the online applications have helped bring transparency in the recruitment process. The physical tests of candidates were videographed.

"We did not receive any complaint. Due to the computer kiosks available in rural areas, the candidates did not find difficulty in getting the application forms online. In fact, the number of applications doubled," she said.

Earlier experiences have shown that there have been instances of stampede at places where forms were distributed. There were complaints of favouritism in the interview system and subjective questions in question papers.

This year, applications from aspiring candidates saw 30 to 40 per cent rise. Last year, three lakh applications were received while this year it was more than five lakh.
