Mumbai: Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav
Thackeray today said those who oppose revolutionary leader
Swatantryaveer Sawarkar should be sent to the Cellular Jain at
"Only real men can worship Sawarkar and not cowards.
Those who oppose him should be sent to the Cellular Jail at
Andamans, where the great freedom fighter had served sentence,
for at least one day so that they understand his struggle and
the passion which he had for his motherland," Uddhav said.
He was speaking at a function held here tonight to mark
the centenary of Sawarkar`s most celebrated poem `Ne Majasi Ne
Sagara...` depicting his craving to be back in his motherland.
The programme, organised by Venus Cultural Association
and Swades Sewa, which are affiliated to the Bharatiya Janata
Party, was held at Shivaji Park in Dadar in Central Mumbai
after the Bombay High Court relaxed its ban on use of
loudspeakers at the venue especially for this event.
Referring to the reports that there can be a ban on
events to commemorate Chhattrapati Shivaji Maharaj`s
coronation, Thackeray dared that those who want ban on
Sawarkar and Shivaji should first do so for the Urs procession
of Afzal Khan.
Highlight of the evening was rendition of the poem `Ne
Majasi...` by noted music composed Pt Hridaynath Mangeshkar
and his sister and veteran singer and Usha Mangeshkar.
He had composed the music for the same way back in 1956
for which he was suspended from the services of All India
Recalling the old times, Pt Mangeshkar said after the
song went on air, he was issued a show cause notice as to why
he composed music for this song.
The organisers said similar programme would be held
