Opposition NCP backs Maharashtra CM to complete speech in Council

Mumbai: The camaraderie between ruling BJP and opposition NCP was evident in the Legislative Council on Friday as group leader Sunil Tatkare beckoned Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to continue with his speech even as Congress alleged bias on the part of Deputy Chairman Vasant Davkhare.

As Fadnavis stood up to reply to the opposition on the vote of thanks after Governor's speech, Congress leader Manikrao Thakrey alleged that he was not given a chance to speak on the vote of thanks.

"It was unanimously decided that we would continue discussion on the Governor's speech in a special session today. I even gave you (Thakrey) a chance to speak but you asked someone else to speak then. You cannot allege bias in such a situation," Davkare said.

However, Congress members continued shouting slogans and demanded that Thakrey be given a chance to speak.

"You are beckoning Fadnavis to start the speech while we are requesting him to give me a chance to speak. This isn't right," Thakrey told NCP leader Tatkare.

Meanwhile, a no confidence motion against council Chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh is expected to be discussed in the Council next week, where NCP claims to have 32 members out of the total 40 required to pass the motion.

"We have with us seven days and we will succeed in garnering the tally of 40 to pass the no confidence motion," Tatkare had said.
