Gondia: Over 200 houses were damaged following heavy rains in the Arjuni Morgaon tehsil of Gondia district during the last 48 hours, official sources said on Tuesday.
With the Itiadoh dam overflowing, the district administration has sounded an alert in the villages in its vicinity and have sent a five-member disaster management team and a steamer boat to facilitate rescue operations, sources said.
Arjuni Morgaon tehsil registered 131.6 mm rainfall on Sunday and the heavy downpour led to as many as 234 houses being damaged.
There has also been loss of crop on over 600 hectares of land in Mahagaon and Keshori revenue divisions while tehsildar has instructed the concerned officials to make an actual assessment of the losses.
The district received 6,569.09 mm rainfall during between June 1 and August 19 this year, sources added.
