Mumbai: Union Agriculture Minister and NCP president Sharad Pawar on Sunday said the Maharashtra government should implement the Centre`s decision to increase the women`s quota in local self government bodies from 33 percent to 50 percent.
While, meeting NCP ministers in state government at Nehru Centre here, Pawar asked them to demand Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan that Maharashtra take the lead in implementing the Centre`s decision before March 8, the International Women`s Day.
While Wagh, representing Pachora in neighbouring Jalgaon district, was arrested yesterday from Mumbai, Mali was held by Nashik Police here today.
A 20-year-old girl from Pathardi, Ahmednagar district, had alleged that Wagh and Mali called her to Nashik, promising to give her a job, and raped her on February 21 at the government guest house here.
She lodged the FIR on February 25, following which, the NCP suspended Wagh.
