Thane: Thane police is yet to pay an amount of around Rs 96 lakh to city`s civic transport body for providing free journey to police personnel in the buses in 2010-11, a report has claimed.
The police department in Thane owed Rs 95.71 lakh to the transport body for the year 2010-11, the report prepared by Thane Municipal Transport said.
It added that the police department has been paying this fee since 1993 to the transport body as per the government order.
The report further mentions that on account of various concessions given to students, physically-challenged persons, freedom fighters and mediapersons, the administration suffered a dent of Rs 1.35 crore in its revenue.
It also said that in Thane, which has a population of over 20 lakh as of today, a total of 480 buses were required as per the CIRT report, as against the 286 buses in its fleet.
Its annual income through ticket collection was Rs 55.40 crore, the report mentioned.
Large scale of absenteeism among the staff has made things difficult for them to provide better services to the citizens, the report said.
