Gadchiroli: An encounter took place between police and Naxalites in the jungles of Gangin village in Korchi taluka of the district, police said here on Thursday.

According to information, a police patrol party was on an anti-Naxalite drive in the Gangin forest area last night when around 25 to 30 Naxalites hiding in the forest suddenly opened fire on the police, who fired in retaliation.

The firing continued for about half-an-hour. However, seeing the growing pressure of the police, Naxalites ran away in the forest.

There were no reports of any casualty from the either parties in the firing.
