Mumbai: A senior police officer, who has
come under scanner following a rape complaint by a minor after
delivering a baby girl, would soon be questioned and his DNA
samples would be taken, police said.
According to police, the 15-year-old girl lodged a
complaint at suburban Powai police station recently alleging
that she was raped by a few persons on different occasions,
but did not mention their names in the FIR.
However, during the probe, the name of one police
officer from south Mumbai who is suspected to have had a role
in the rape case, has surfaced. They were investigating the
role of the officer in the case, police said.
"The DNA sample of the infant born to the victim was
taken. The DNA sample of the police officer would be taken
soon to check whether it matches with that of the DNA profile
of the infant," said a police officer, requesting anonymity.
According to Powai police, a pimp Shanta Gaikwad (40)
was arrested recently for allegedly providing minor girls in
Powai, where she was employed as domestic help.
The minor girl`s mother learnt that Gaikwad had indulged
her daughter into prostitution, they said.
The mother subsequently lodged a complaint at Powai
police station after which Gaikwad was held, police said.
Later, the victim`s mother learnt that her daughter was
four-month pregnant and was not in a position to go for
abortion, they said.
The victim recently delivered a baby girl and the rape
case was registered against the unidentified men, police said.
The girl has identified the flat where she was raped.
The flat is not far from the place where the police officer
stays with his family in the western suburbs.
