Pune: A determined policeman booked a traffic
violator in a dramatic chase on an arterial road here, not
before he was dragged by the car driven by a drunk man.
When a car did not move even after the signal turned
green at a busy square last evening, traffic policeman Santosh
Wadekar went to the vehicle to check out the matter.
The driver then dragged the cop for a distance and then
applied brakes in a sudden movement, flooring Wadekar on the
road, police said.
The bruised cop hailed a motorcyclist and chased the car
which escaped again. Wadekar then engaged two rickshaw drivers
to tail the offender and blocked his way but that bid failed
before the car finally came to a halt after colliding with a
The 30-year-old driver Eknath Pawar, whose breath
analyser test confirmed his inebriated state, was arrested
along with three occupants of the car from which liquor
bottles were recovered, they said.
