Mumbai: In an unusual development, the
prosecutors in the case against MNS chief Raj Thackeray for
alleged assault on North Indians were not aware that police
have filed a charge sheet against the party chief and his 20
supporters on Wednesday.
Rohini Salian, who has been appointed as special public
prosecutor in the case against Raj Thackeray, was not present
in the court of metropolitan magistrate when the police filed
a 73-page charge sheet against Raj and 20 others for rioting
and assault on North Indians last year.
"The charge sheet is usually perused in the prosecutor`s
presence. But in this case I was not even informed by police
that they are filing the charge sheet. Now, the prosecution
will have to wait till the copy of the charge sheet is
furnished to us," Salian said.
The entire exercise of the suburban Kherwadi police (of
filing charge sheet against the accused for alleged assault
and rioting during the railway recruitment examination at
Chetna College) was done without any public prosecutor in the
