Pune: The Pune Police launched a massive combing operation in various hotels, lodges and guest houses in the city Thursday as part of the probe into the Feb 13 bomb blast here that killed 11 people.

Announcing this, a top police official said "no specific community" or groups are being targeted but declined to reveal the names of the areas being searched.
Over two dozen police teams are visiting hotels, lodges and guest houses and checking records of the people staying or those who had stayed there, their background, records of phone calls, visitors and guests besides other details.

He also declined to confirm if members of any particular group like the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) or the Indian Mujahideen were suspected behind the terror attack.

"We are keeping all options open, we have no pre-conceived notions about the involvement of any group or organisation during the course of the investigation," he said.

The official also warned that the licenses of hotels failing to install adequate security system would not be renewed.

"This is a wake-up call for all of us. We had issued these instructions over two years ago, but still many hotels have not implemented them. If they do not do it soon, then their licenses may not be renewed," the official said.

The police have also asked all cyber cafes in the city to keep photo-identify proofs of all their customers, he said.

Until now, the cyber cafes asked for identity cards and noted down the custumers` name, address and contact details, as is being done in Mumbai, post-26/11 terror attacks.

Referring to a query on some encroachment outside the German Bakery - where the Feb 13 blast took place - the official said that the police and civic authorities have already discussed ways and means to solve this problem.

The city police are confident of making a breakthrough soon in the probe into the Pune blast that killed 11 people and injured 57.
