Pune: In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old mentally ill woman has been allegedly raped by a ward boy and a watchman of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)’s civic hospital in Bhosari here.
After being admitted to the hospital on August 26 after she developed fever, the victim, who is also speech impaired, was told by the accused on August 29 that she needed to be shifted to another ward. The duo took her to the lift and the ward boy allegedly raped her, while the guard helped him.
The victim`s medical report is awaited on Monday.
The victim did not inform about the incident to anyone until she was discharged from the hospital on August 31 and went to her shelter home - Chaitanya Mahila Mandal. She then narrated the incident to a rehabilitation officer of the home on Saturday evening, who immediately lodged a police complaint.
On Sunday, Shailendra Dagdu Jadhav (39), the ward boy, and Pramod Manohar Mandekar (28), the security guard, were arrested on the basis of descriptions given by the victim.
They have been booked under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code, 1860 pertaining to rape and punishment for abetment. The duo were produced before a local court, which remanded them in police custody till September 04.
