Rape cases are on the rise due to women wearing less clothes: Abu Azmi

Mumbai: In another outrageous comment by a politician against women post the Delhi gang-rape case, Mumbai head of the Samajwadi Party Abu Azmi said on Tuesday that the freedom that women have to move around freely with men should be curtailed.

"Women should not venture out with men who are not relatives," Azmi, a member of Maharashtra assembly, said here.

"What is the need for roaming at night with men who are not relatives? This should be stopped," he said.

"Such incidents (like the Delhi gang-rape) happen due to influence of western culture," Azmi said.

Scantily-clad women attract male attention, Azmi said adding rape cases are on the rise due to "women wearing less clothes."

And in a statement which sounded like the comment made by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Abu Azmi said that rapes were lesser in rural areas than in urban areas because there was less influence of western culture there.

"The number of rape cases in villages are less (compared to cities)," he said.

Azmi added, "if a girl goes with her consent with him (boy friend) to a hotel and does not complain, then it is not an issue. But if the same girl goes with the boy to the hotel and no one knows what happens inside...And if the girl comes out and complains, he would be hanged," Azmi said.

The SP leader also blamed Hindi cinema for increasing crime against women. He said that the nudity that is shown in films must be taken cognizance of.

Meanwhile, while talking to CNN-IBN Abu Azmi’s son, Farhan Azmi apologised and expressed regret over the statement made by his father.

“We need to have a proper dialogue with the previous generation,” he said.

At the same time he added, “This rape issue is very condemnable.”

He also said, “Certain things that my father said was slightly Islamic and we do not want to impose this on anybody,” he said adding “I completely agree that my father made a wrong statement. The words he chose were misplaced.”

“Somewhere there is disconnect between my generation and my father's generation.”

In the same vein he added, “I think 70 percent of men feel that women today are crossing the line.”

maybe we could declare India into a `free sex` country, like Greece, Brazil, Russia, China, Poland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland etc. Consequentially we`d have a culture that knows? and accepts sex as a part of life and stop acting like freaks by the very sound of word `sex`. Another reason for increasing crime against women is that they are being presented as commodities and vile beings by the glamour world. the men of lesser intellect end up confusing all women to be of easy virtue.

However, on question of married men raping... I can only say it reflects the falling character of men, deviant mentality brooding among masses and absolute failure of criminal? justice system to leave a strong message that such crimes shall never go unpunished... the worst part is played by the masses who instead of supporting and strengthening the rape victim... start despising them and even accuse them of being guilty of ``inviting rape``... the conditions are getting from bad to worse.

Nobody has any moral right to tell with whom another dad`s princess should be at a time she desires till she`s not hurting anybody or anybody`s feelings.

Wearing decent clothes makes a women dignified and also protects her from harm, it is not going to take away freedom or rights.

This is totally insane. These people have to de deported back to primitive ages or atleast they were not so backward in their thinking. He says women who wear short clothes attract men to rape. Then what about victims who are just 2 or 3 year old babies or gals still in primary school getting raped or even the case of grand mothers getting raped or even pregnant women being raped in hyderabad or delhi?what attraction do they show from short clothes??and i have done survey which clearly proves that a guy`s henious intentions to rape doesn`t arise from the girls dresses.for a matter of fact, for a drunkard or any one who is filled with such desires,a fully clad women is also seen as naked.Such rapists and people who support them by making such comments are no less than two legged beasts who ought to be in wild forset.not in a civilised society. Many rapists are drunkards.so drinking must be banned first before commenting on how a girl should dress up

Freedom can be equal, but it cannot be in reaity. leopard and lion are in cat family, but not both can climb tress, Men and women are human being and have equal social rights, but should take into account of physical and mental differences. Example, people dont mind if men walk around bare chested, but can it be the same for women. Why? You know that. So before fighting for freedom, we need it to be defined properly. It`s not that I`m a male chauvenist. It`s truth. Some may dislike my comment, but I`m okay with that. Freedom of speech is same for men and women. Logically correct. One thing Im really proud to be an Indian, which many muslim countries(exceptions like Iran, Turkey) and Commie nations don`t have. Jai Hind!!

Does the Death Penalty Stop Murders? All murders and rapes are not pre-planned. It happens in the heat of the moment. Men and women should takecare of themselvess to avoid unpleasant situations. Stop screaming about rights and act smartly. If if you don`t then you are the loser.

This isn`t outrageous. These are words of wisdom to be accepted and implemented.

I believe.. evryone has a right to live in his/her own way. N logically this must not b snatched away or criticised by any of the politicians, untill n unless one`s act is hurting the other. To talk with other guys, to keep relation with others, is a point of mutual choice, nobody is forcing it on anyone. but that doesnt mean that a gal is inviting others to rape. For example, wen a guest comes to ur house, u serve him with the best dishes n comfort. now does that mean that u allow him to take away all ur belongings with him?? the answer is NO, ri8? so, pls stop blaming females coz it highlights the fact that the critics admit that they are weak n therefore they support the criminals.
