Mumbai: An alleged member of Ravi Pujari gang was on Friday shot at in an encounter with police at suburban Chembur while he was extorting money from a builder, police
said.
Acting on a tip off that a member of Pujari gang arrived at the residence of builder, who also deals in imitation jewellery business, near Diamond Garden in Chembur to extort
money, police reached the spot and laid a trap.
The police later told the accused Anand to surrender but he fired two rounds at the policemen. In defence, police opened fire in which he sustained bullet injuries, they added.
The accused, who claimed to be associated with Pujari gang, was immediately rushed to nearby hospital with injuries, police said adding the accused was demanding Rs 25 lakh from the builder. Further probe was on.
