Mumbai: Pointing out there was scarcity of
land for further development of Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief
Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Friday indicated reclamation of
land too may not be an option.
He was speaking at a presentation made by Ronald Waterman
from the Netherlands, an expert in the field.
Chavan said that in view of the Coastal Regulation Zone
rules and strict environmental laws, land reclamation "is just
a possibility" as of now.
The presentation dwelled on how the sea-shore along
Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Malbar Hill, Mahim, JNPT and
Revas could be developed.
Waterman contends that as in the European countries, land
can be reclaimed from the sea here too.
