Revoke suspension of 14 Oppn MLAs: Shiv Sena

Shiv Sena on Tuesday urged Speaker Dilip Walse Patil to intervene in revoking the one year suspension of 14 Opposition MLAs.

Mumbai: Shiv Sena on Tuesday urged Speaker Dilip Walse Patil to intervene in revoking the one year suspension of 14 Opposition MLAs from participating in proceedings of the Legislative Assembly.

Sena leader Subhash Desai said each MLA represents 3-4 lakh people and the elected representative is not able to highlight the issues concerning the constituents.

"This is injustice to the people," he said.

Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse felt one year suspension was "too harsh" and it should not be revoked.

He urged the Speaker to talk to the government in this regard. Walse Patil said the role of a presiding officer is very limited in such case.

"I will take the initiative to convene meeting of both the government and Opposition leaders to find out solution to the issue," he added.

Thirteen Sena and one BJP MLA were suspended for a year when they brought a Ganesh idol and performed `aarti` on the floor of the House to highlight government inaction in bringing to book culprits who stole the golden idol from Diveagar temple in Raigad district.
