Kolhapur (Maha): Shiv Sena activists led by a local MLA stormed the studio of a news channel and assaulted a Kannada Rakshana Vedike leader for his alleged remarks against party supremo Bal Thackeray during a TV discussion on Maharashtra-Karnataka border row.
Around 20-25 people led by MLA Rajesh Kshirsagar
barged into the television studio and attacked Vedike`s Syed
Mansoor last night, police said adding they also vandalised
Kshirsagar and eight others were arrested today for
the attack, they said.
Mansoor was later escorted by the police to Karnataka.
"Kshirsagar and eight others were arrested at 1.30 PM
and later released on a bail of Rs 15,000 each by Chief
Judicial Magistrate B C Kamble," an official at Shahupuri
police station said.
"We are not against any news channel and media people.
We were only protesting against Kannad Rakshan Vedika
organisation," the MLA said after his release.
It was the second attack on a TV news channel in as
many days by saffron activists. Suspected Sangh Parivar
activists barged into a building housing Headlines Today and
its sister channel Aaj Tak here in Delhi last evening and
damaged furniture in the office lobby.
They were angry over a sting operation telecast
by the channel which purportedly showed some RSS
functionaries planning to attack Vice President Hamid Ansari.
