Mumbai: Shiv Sena leaders on Friday met Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan here demanding better compensation for hailstorm affected farmers and immediate suspension of loan recovery.

The Sena delegation led by senior party leader Diwakar Raote met the Governor at Raj Bhavan and demanded a compensation between Rs 15,000 and Rs 25, 000 per hectare to farmers whose crop has been damaged by the recent hailstorm.

The delegation sought immediate suspension of debt recovery from the affected farmers, pending announcement of a loan waiver after the elections.

The delegation comprising Rajya Sabha member Anil Desai, Anil Parab and Neelam Gorhe also requested the Governor to visit some of the hailstorm-affected areas in the state.

The Governor assured the delegation that he will discuss the matter with the Chief Minister.
The delegation also requested the Governor to recommend the name of noted social reformer Appasaheb Dharmadhikari for an honorary doctorate to the University of Mumbai in recognition to his services to society.
