Mumbai: As many as 34 Shiv Sena workers were on Sunday arrested under charges of rioting after they held demonstrations against Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda when he arrived here to attend a function, police said.

Over 400 activists had gathered outside the venue in suburban Mulund protesting against Gowda despite police warning them to leave the place, DCP Sanjay Shintre told PTI.

"After the warning, many of the workers had left the place, while over 30 activists refused to budge following which they were arrested under the charges of rioting and unlawful assembly," he said.

The protesters were raising slogans, including the contentious border issue pertaining to Belgaum, against the Karnataka CM, he added.

Maharashtra and Karnataka share a long standing border dispute over Belgaum and a few other Marathi-speaking villages in the neighbouring state.
