Mumbai: The son of a top corporate executive was arrested in a hit-and-run case in which a motorcyclist was seriously wounded, while a minor girl was killed and five others injured in an another accident, police said on Tuesday.

Ankush, son of Dinesh Shahra, Managing Director of Ruchi Soya, was arrested from Churchgate area following a chase by police after his Porsche car allegedly rammed into a bike at Marine Drive in the wee hours of Monday, they said.

The 24-year-old, who was drunk, tried to escape in his car, but was chased down after a beat constable and some onlookers alerted local police, senior inspector of Marine Drive police station Z M Gharad told PTI.

Ankush, who was heading home in Cuffe Parade after a late night party, was later released on bail, Gharad said.

The victim, Alauddin Imamuddin Haq, was admitted to the Bombay Hospital with serious injuries on his head and legs. Doctors said he was recovering "slowly".

Haq works as a waiter in a south Mumbai food joint.

In the second mishap, 16-year-old college student Shifa Shaikh, was killed and three of her companions - Sania Deshmukh (17), Faizan Sayyed Sardar (19) and Mohsin Salim Shaikh (17) - injured after their Honda City hit a divider on Peddar Road at 1.30 am today.

"Faizan (who was driving the car) lost control over the vehicle while moving at a high speed following which it dashed into the divider and subsequently hit a wall and a parked Toyota car. They did not appear to be drunk," senior inspector Sanjay Diwadkar said.

Two pedestrians, Dinesh Jadhav and Vipul Dalal, were also injured, he said.

SUBASH - DUBAI
It’s saddening that such incidents have been reported earlier too. It seems the MONEY-POWER especially in Indian metros has made the RICH KIDS totally UNCIVILIZED. They lack humanity, civic sense and have no value for human life, because they know that with Money Power they can buy good lawyers and corrupt police who will apply only lenient charges only instead of appropriate harsh charges. I once again underline that most of the crimes are related to corruption only, hence corruption has to be uprooted and stringent punishments needed for wrong doers.
