Mumbai: Senior Shiv Sena leader Diwakar Raote on Thursday attacked NCP leader and state health and education minister Fouzia Khan for holding the post even after her membership of Legislative Council expired six months ago and demanded her immediate resignation.
Raote met Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao today and demanded action against Khan, who continues to be a minister though her term as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) ended on March 12, 2014.
"Fouzia Khan's term as an MLC expired on March 12 this year but she continues to take decisions in the health department. Six months have passed since her term got over but she has not been re-elected to either of the houses," Raote told reporters here today on the sidelines of his meeting with the Maharashtra Governor.
He said that he has requested the Governor to demand Khan's resignation from her ministerial position immediately.
"During the monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, I had raised this issue with the Chairman of the House Shivajirao Deshmukh, but he has not taken any action so far. Therefore, I have asked the Governor to demand her resignation as a minister immediately," Raote said.
He claimed that it was the responsibility of Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to come forward and take action.
"Despite laws being flouted the Chief Minister failed to take any action against Khan. He should have come forward and been the first person to stop rules from being flouted. He can still take a wise decision," Raote said.
