Six dead as scaffolding crashes in Mumbai suburbSi

The scaffolding had been raised for painting a newly- constructed 14-storey building. The accident took place around 3 pm, police said.

Thane: Six construction workers were killed and at least three were injured when a scaffolding crashed in Bhayander, a Mumbai suburb, this afternoon.

The scaffolding had been raised for painting a newly- constructed 14-storey building. The accident took place around 3 pm, police said.

The workers standing on the scaffolding fell and three of them died on the spot. The injured were rushed to the Umrao Hospital, where three more died.

Only a week ago, six persons had died in a slab-crash at another site in the town.

Police are probing whether there was any negligence on the part of the contractor.

The deceased were identified as Manapuram Govind (23), Naresh Narasimha (20), Masappa (30), Sarla Raju (20), Chellapa (26) and Narayan Lavanga (40), all from Andhra Pradesh.
