Mumbai: Vinod Bhagat, brother of slain
matka king Suresh Kalyanji Bhagat, Wednesday moved the Bombay High
Court urging for reopening two FIRs and a written complaint
filed by deceased brother during his lifetime against his
former wife Jaya and her associates for trying to frame him in
criminal cases.

Bhagat also pleaded that these cases may be transferred
to CID for an independent probe.

After the murder of Suresh, both Jaya and Vinod are
locked in a battle to take the reins of the illegal 1000-crore
of matka, an ingenious system of gambling on numbers,
according to police sources.

Hearing the petition alleging police inaction on
complaints made by Suresh against his former wife and others,
Justice B H Marlapalle and Justice Anoop Mohta asked Deputy
Commissioner of Police (Zone III) to file reply in three
weeks.

The petitioner said his brother was murdered on June 13,
2008 allegedly at the instance of his former wife Jaya, her
son Hitesh and other associates who wanted to take over matka
business. They were arrested for the crime and are currently
being tried by a special court.
