Mumbai: Jai Hind College walked away with the top honours at Kaleidoscope, the annual inter-college festival of Sophia College for Women, Mumbai, which concluded August 29.
HR college, Mumbai ranked second, while the hosts Sophia clinched the third prize. St. Xavier's, Goa won the best out station college.
Around 60-70 colleges nationwide took part in the five day extravaganza, and Sophia's Bhabha Hall reverberated with colour and sound as enthusiastic performers were cheered by their supporters. The participants and the audience won prizes worth over Rs. 5 lakh. Winners of the band event, Electrocuted get to perform one evening at the prestigious Blue Frog, Mumbai and winners of 'Stand up Come-die' at The Comedy Store, Mumbai.
This year's new show, 'Dance for a Cause' where participants sent out social messages to the audience, was a huge hit. Sophia classic events like Electrocuted and Mr. and Miss K, judged by veteran filmaker Anurag Kashyap, also drew a lot of participants.
Hundreds took part in Sophia's other flagship events, like Dus ka Tees, What-A-Riot and Stand up Come-die along with workshops like Verse Bash (performance poetry), Furtado's (music) and Out of Bounds (photography event), as well as athletic events like Slam Dunk (half-court basketball) and Street Football.
A student from Jai Hind college said, "I participated in 'Dance for a Cause.' We did not win a prize but that is because it was extremely competitive. Some of the performances I saw were simply stunning and I am going back learning a lot. I even watched the 'Hard Mock Cafe' which was a parody of rock music/bands and was hilarious to say the least.'
