Mumbai: Following the third murder of a
minor girl in suburban Kurla here, Maharashtra Home Minister R
R Patil Monday said a special unit comprising Joint
Commissioners of Police, Crime and Law and Order would be set
up for speedy probe.
"A unit of Joint CP, Crime and Law and Order would be set
up on the issue. I have also asked them to speed up the
probe," Patil said today.
The post-mortem report of an eight-year-old girl from
Kurla, whose body was found last week, revealed that she was
sexually assaulted before being murdered.
Nusrat Shaikh, whose decomposed body was found in an old
building in Nehrunagar area, had gone missing from her house
on June 6.
"The post-mortem report of government-run J J Hospital
said she was sexually assaulted and later strangled,"
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Jalinder Khandagale said.
Police have also issued a sketch of the suspect, he said.
The incident has created furore among the residents of
Kurla`s Nehru Nagar locality as this is the third such case in
In February, the body of a six-year-old girl was
recovered from a drain in the locality. In March, police
recovered the body of a nine-year-old girl from the terrace of
a building in the police quarters in Nehru Nagar. Both the
girls had been raped.
