Suspected SIMI activist remanded in custody in blasts case

custody of Wazhul Kamar, a suspected SIMI activist arrested by
state ATS for possessing fire arms, in connection with the
2002-2003 bomb blasts in the metropolis.

Kamar alias Murtuza Choudhary (44), allegedly involved in
triggering the explosions, was today produced before a
designated POTA court, which remanded him in police custody
till May 28, a senior police official told agency.
He was arrested by Maharashtra ATS from suburban Kurla on
May 10 for allegedly possessing a 7.65 mm pistol and three
live cartridges, police said, adding a local court yesterday
sent him in judicial custody till June 3 in connection with
the case.

Kamar was today produced before the POTA court as the
Crime branch moved an application seeking his custody in
the blasts case.

Kamar was wanted by Mumbai Crime Branch for the blast in
a local train at Mulund station on March 13, 2003. He was also
suspected to be involved in an explosion near a shopping
complex outside Vile Parle railway station on January 27,
2003.
He is also wanted in connection with a blast at
McDonald`s outlet at Mumbai Central suburban station on
December 6, 2002. The three blasts cases, which were clubbed
together, are being heard by the POTA court here.
