Thackeray scion blows hot over new lights at Marine Drive

Yuva Sena president and Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray's son Aaditya Thackeray has raised objection to replacement of street lights at the iconic Marine Drive here.

Mumbai: Yuva Sena president and Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray's son Aaditya Thackeray has raised objection to replacement of street lights at the iconic Marine Drive here.

"Just passed Marine Drive. The white lights have stolen the (Queen's) Necklace of its charm. Reckless decision...," Aaditya tweeted after visiting the spot last night.

"The point is those who've taken decision of these new lights, do they love Mumbai? Respect local self govts? Yellow lights were the charm," Aaditya said.

Responding to the Yuva Sena leader's allegation that the "local self govt" (Shiv Sena-controlled BMC) was not taken on board while taking the decision on replacing the lights, Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar today said that it is wrong to dub the decision as 'autocratic'.

"Union energy minister Piyush Goyal had issued necessary directions after meeting state energy minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, BMC commissioner Sitaram Kunte and officials concerned," Shelar said.

The LED lighting scheme will lead to reduction in BMC's electricity bill and is also environment-friendly, the BJP leader said.
