Thane: 12L voters to decide fate of 802 candidates

Thane: In Thane Municipal Corporation polls, around 11.96 lakh voters are going to decide the fate of 802 candidates for 130 seats on Thursday.

With the addition of 2.85 lakh voters this time, the number of voters has gone up to 11.96 lakh, who would decide the elect the candidates, sources said.

The number of candidates are as follows: Shiv Sena (100), BJP (25), NCP (76), Congress (61), MNS (114), BSP (22), DRP (28), IUML ( 7), SP (34) and RPI(A) (6).

Besides these, there are several independents giving a fight.

This time, as per the panel system, 2 representatives will be elected from each of the 65 wards, taking the number of corporators to 130.

There are a number of male candidates, who are fighting the polls along with their wives. Some of these candidates include Rajan Kini, Sanjay More and Ravi Phtak. Almost 50 per cent of the sitting corporators have been given tickets by their respective parties again.

According to sources, around 1,471 polling booths have been raised for the election.
