Thane: Thane municipal commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal on Wednesday tabled Rs 1,998 crore the draft budget for the financial year 2015-16.
The civic chief presented the budget before the standing committee chairperson Sudha Chavan.
Calling this budget as "realistic", Jaiswal said it lays emphasis on infrastructure development in the city.
It shows an income of Rs 1,706 from various sources, Rs 203 crore towards grants and Rs 89 crore as loan.
He has proposed to hike water cess, sewerage tax, development tax, LBT, advertisement taxes, Garbage tax, and rates of licences. "We had no other option but to go for a hike in various taxes," he said.
"Through LBT, the corporation hopes to earn Rs 650 crores, Rs 349 crore through property tax, Rs 350 crore development taxes, Rs 145 crore by way of water cess," Jaiswal added.
The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has allocated Rs 15 crore for road widening and improvement,Rs 32.50 crore road concretisation, Rs 14 crore for New Kalwa Bridge, among other things.
The budget has proposed a traffic management system for the city, mechanical sweeping, setting up of virtual class rooms, document journey management system,
The budget also mentioned that 5 lakh trees would be planted in the city in the coming next two years.
