Mumbai: The Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) has concluded the examination of the witnesses in the 2006 serial train blasts case on Wednesday after the last deposition on Tuesday.
"The prosecution closed its case and now the court will record the statements of the accused after which we will examine some of the defence witnesses", said defence lawyer Abdul Wahab Khan.
The court is likely to record statements of the accused under section 313 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) enabling the accused to explain the circumstances appearing in the evidence against him, from April 27.
The prosecution examined in all 186 witnesses.
Seven RDX bombs kept in the first class coaches of Mumbai`s suburban trains had exploded on July 11, 2006 killing 188 people and injuring 817 others. The blasts occurred in trains at between Khar Road - Santacruz, Bandra - Khar road,
Jogeshwari -Mahim Junction, Mira road - Bhayander, Matunga -Mahim Junction and at Borivili.
Kamal Ahamed Ansari (37), Dr Tanvir Ahmed Ansari (37), Mohd Faisal Shaikh (36), Ehtesham Siddiqui (30), Mohammad Majid Shafi (32), Shaikh alam Shaikh (41), Mohd Sajid Ansari (34), Abdul Wahid Shaikh (34), Muzzammil Shaikh (27), Soheil Mehmood Shaikh (43), Zamir Ahmad Shaikh (36), Naveed Hussain
Khan (30), Asif Khan (38) are the accused in the case arrested by the ATS while Azam Chima along with 14 others are still absconding.
The examination of witnesses resumed after a span of two years as the Supreme court had stayed the trial in 2008. The stay was vacated on April 23, 2010.
