Mumbai: Two persons were killed and
another was injured on Sunday when a speeding train hit them,
triggering protests that led to disruption of services on the
Central Railway, police said.
"At around 1.30 pm, a speeding suburban train hit
three persons crossing the railway tracks at Vikhroli. Two of
them were killed, while the other was seriously injured,"
Government Railway Police (GRP) Commissioner Tukaram Chavan
Following the incident, locals and passengers blocked
the tracks to lodge protest against the accident, he said.
"People say they had been demanding a foot over bridge
near the accident site, but the Railway administration had not
paid any heed to their demand," Chavan said.
Central Railway PRO Srinivas Mudgerikar said services
on all four rail lines there were disrupted as a huge crowd
blocked the tracks.
