Mumbai: Two girls from nearby Thane district were arrested by the Mumbai Police for posting a Facebook comment that questioned the bandh in Mumbai following Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray's death.

While 21-year-old Shaheen Dhadha was arrested for Facebook status update which reportedly read: ‘People like Thackeray are born and die daily and one should not observe a bandh for that.’

Her friend, indentified as one Renu, who ‘liked’ her comment was also arrested.

The duo were reportedly booked under Section 295 (a) of the IPC (for hurting religious sentiments) and Section 64 (a) of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

However, within hours of the arrest, both of them were released on bail of Rs 15,000 each.

The arrests came hours after Shiv Sainiks reportedly attacked and ransacked Shaheen’s orthopaedic clinic at Palghar.

Importantly, the girl had withdrawn the comment and apologised before the attacks took place.

Meanwhile, Justice Markandey Katju has written a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan in which he has termed the arrest as absurd and demanded immediate action against guilty officers.

This clearly shows the cracked mentality of the so-called `Shivsainiks`. All that Bala Saheb contributed towards is hate speech and communal riots. Those who can`t tolerate opposition to their `hero` should go and bang their wretched fat heads.

The arrest of those two girls can never be justified even after the Bombay Government`s intervention to ``arrest`` the police personnel for their unpardonable crime amounts to anti-national, undemocratic, and barbaric in nature. The ways in which police acted and arrested these girls can happen only in a place where there is no democracy, right to speech and expression. It is really an unfortunate incident for sovereign, secular, democratic and socialist republic countries like ours. Politics of appeasement by ruling parties, Government servants` emotional attachment to influential politicians, vandalism oriented political parties with hate speech as their political capital, power hungry shrewd politicians are some of the threats and challenges to Indian democracy. Mumbai is not exception to this understanding.

For all the literate people commenting against Mumbai Police & Balasaheb Thakre, please read the news properly `` The duo were reportedly booked under Section 295 (a) of the IPC (for hurting religious sentiments) and Section 64 (a) of the Information Technology Act, 2000`` Also those who don`t know what Balasaheb did for Maharashtra & what was his fight for please get your facts corrected & first get knowledge about what you speak about any one.

Arrests should have been done but of those Shivsainiks who attacked the Girl`s house. Is Hurting someone`s sentiments is more serious crime than hurting someone itself ?? Shame on Indian administration

This is the clear picture of what they call `Our great India`` with Police acting as a puppet of few leaders. And on top ``Uneducated`` Shiv Sainiks.
