Mumbai: Two persons were arrested for allegedly stealing and killing a pet dog of their neighbour, police said on Thursday.

Lalorani Imduin and Mishag Chinautram, hailing from Manipur, were apprehended last night in suburban Santacruz after police acted on a compalint filed by one Santosh Shetty whose four-year-old Labrador dog went missing on Monday.

Shetty approached police last evening and registered an FIR under IPC Section 379 (theft) and relevant sections of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

Preliminary investigation hinted at the involvement of the duo, who were Shetty's neighbours, and they were arrested, said Senior Inspector Villas Joshi of Vakola Police.

The two admitted to killing the dog but the motive was still not clear, police said.

Imduin and Chinautram were today produced before a court which remanded them in two-day police custody.
