UP Governor to meet public regularly, BJP questions move

The newly-appointed Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Aziz Qureshi, has decide to meet the general public regularly, a move which has been questioned by BJP.

Lucknow: The newly-appointed Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Aziz Qureshi, has decide to meet the general public regularly, a move which has been questioned by BJP.

"Dr Qureshi will be available for general public at Raj Bhawan between 11 am to 1 pm daily (excluding holidays)," said an official release here on Tuesday.

According to the release, Qureshi has thanked President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for having faith in him.

Another release issued by the Raj Bhawan said Qureshi would be visiting Varanasi on June 30.

"In a letter, saints and seers of Shri Panch Dashnaam Juna Akhara Varanasi extended good wishes to Dr Qureshi and invited him to come to Kashi, which he has accepted," it said.
Qureshi, the Governor of Uttrakhand, had been given additional charge of UP.
Meanwhile, BJP state president Laxmi Kant Bajpai raised questions over Qureshi`s decision to hold `janta darbar`.

Bajpai said his party respected the dignity of the post of Governor and requested the Governor to reconsider his decision to hold `janta darbar`.

Terming the Akhilesh Yadav government as the most unsuccessful on law and order front, Bajpai said the situation was very bad in the state and problems of youths and farmers were not getting resolved.
He said despite all this the Akhilesh government was an elected government, and in such circumstances the Governor`s decision to hold `janta darbar` "is beyond my understanding".
