Kolhapur: Senior Communist leader Govind Pansare and his wife were seriously injured on Monday after unknown men opened fire at them near their home in Sagarmala here.
As per reports, unknown bike-borne assailants fired gunshots at the couple, who were out for morning walk, at around 8:00 am.
The assailants fled the scene after the incident.
The 82-year old lawyer and writer, and his wife have been taken to Astor Aadhar Hospital where they are undergoing surgery for bullet injuries.
Minister of State for Home Ram Shinde condemned the incident and said that road blocks have been ordered all over the state to nab the culprits.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condemned the incident and said that he has directed Kolhapur SP to speed up the investigation and arrest the assailants.
“10 police teams would be formed to probe the incident and DG would supervise the investigation,” he stated.
