Jamnagar (Gujarat): Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal on Tuesday demanded apology from the Congress over alleged remarks by its leader Digvijay Singh that involvement of RSS in the Mumbai serial blasts cannot be ruled out.

20 people were killed and over 130 were injured when three blasts ripped through Mumbai on July 13.

Singhal, who was in the temple town of Dwarka here, said that such statements by the Congress leader were meant to malign the Hindu community and was a big cause of concern for the society.

"The Congress should apologise to the nation and the Hindu community for such remarks," Singhal said without naming Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh.

Singh had kicked off a political storm by saying he did not rule out involvement of Sangh in Mumbai serial blasts.

He, however, clarified that his statement was distorted.

"Everybody knows there was a Pakistani hand in the Mumbai blast and it was work of Islamic fundamentalists," Singhal said after paying obeisance at the temple.

The Congress leader's comments were a shame for the Hindu community and India, he added.
