Solapur: The week-long Ashadai Ekadashi
festival at Lord Vitthala temple at Pandharpur will get under
way on July 21 with the Chief Minister Ashok Chavan performing
the `Mahapooja.`

Now the stage is set for the biggest congregation at
the Lord`s temple that is also known as the Kashi of south.

Bearing in mind the terrorists` activities, the district rural
police have made elaborate security preparations and kept the
region and the temple site under tight vigil.

Giving details about the measures taken by police the
District Superintendent of Police Rajesh Pardhan today
expressed confidence that all will go well during the festival
thanks to the steps they have initiated. Steps have been
taken to control flow of devotees and vehicular traffic
through crowd management plan that was chalked out weeks ago.

Special commandos, equipped with the ultra modern AK
47s, anti-sabotage squad, dozens of close circuit cameras,
high towers for surveillance at more than ten spots would help
the police to pave the festival easy way.

"Every year more than six lakh devotees throng the
temple during this particular occasion, but we are expecting
25 per cent more flow of devotees due to the good rains in the
neighboring districts and that is why we have sought a
helicopter from the state government to cover the huge area
through aerial vigil," The DSP said.

"We are hopeful that the state government
would provide helicopter facility to us" the DSP Pardhan, who
is camping at Pandharpur since last week, told the PTI.
