Mumbai: Lauding Narendra Modi government for deciding to replace the word `Bombay` with `Gujarat` in all the Acts and rules in force in that state, Shiv Sena has
demanded that Maharashtra government should also follow the suit.
"Why can`t our Congress-NCP government also replace the word `Bombay` with `Maharashtra` in all the Acts and rules in force in the state," Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray said.
"Why can`t Maharashtra manage what Gujarat has achieved," the Sena leader said.
In the Budget Session of state Legislature, scheduled to commence in July, Maharashtra government should pass a legislation to this effect, Uddhav said.
Gujarat Assembly on March 28 passed a special Bill to replace the word `Bombay` with `Gujarat` in all the Acts and rules in force in that state.
`The Gujarat Short Titles (Amendment) Act, 2011, has been notified in the extraordinary Gazette of Gujarat government.
The state government`s move came 51 years after Gujarat was carved out of erstwhile state of Bombay.
