Mumbai: A 35-year-old woman, who used to provide artistes for film and television serials, allegedly committed suicide by jumping from her 16th floor apartment in suburban Andheri, police said.

The deceased, identified as Ekta Babbar, was apparently in depression, they said. She resided in a flat on the 16th floor of 'Green Acres' apartments in the upscale Lokhandwala Complex area.

Subhash Wele, senior inspector at Oshiwara police station, said Babbar jumped to her death at around 11.30 P.M. Yesterday.

"Babbar was suffering from depression. Her father died six months back and she was staying with her mother in the flat. Her mother was in her bedroom when she jumped from her bedroom," Wele said.

Although investigators are trying to ascertain the cause behind her depression and suicide, a police officer said that she had had no business assignments in hand for the past few months and was in low spirits as a result.

No suicide note was found, police said, adding that Babbar's body was taken to the civic-run Cooper hospital.
