Woman, three children crushed by trailer in Mumbai

A 30-year-old woman and her three children were mowed down by a truck trailer while they were sleeping along roadside in Central Mumbai.

Mumbai: A 30-year-old woman and her three
children were mowed down by a truck trailer while they were
sleeping along roadside in Reay Road area in Central Mumbai
on Wednesday.

Sona Shaikh (30) and her three children Luban (10)
Shababa (6) and Yasin (2), all residents of a nearby slum,
were sleeping along the road outside Atlas Mill compound when
the trailer crushed them this morning, police said.

The victims had constructed a shanty on the pavement
but were sleeping on the road at the time of the mishap.
Police said driver Guyal Gaur (25) lost control of the
vehicle and hit the victims.

Shaikh and the children were rushed to JJ hospital
but were declared dead on admission.

According to police, the driver did not stop even
after the accident and was overpowered by locals who chased
him and handed him over to police.

Gaur has been booked for causing death by negligence
and other sections of the Motor Vehicle Act, they added.
