Leander Sport inks deal with UST Global

Chennai: Leander Sport on Saturday announced technology partnership for Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Racing Formula 1 team with UST Global, a leading provider of end-to-end IT services and solutions.

The agreement, initially for three years, makes the California-based company the official IT Services partner of the team.

For 2010 UST Global is developing a bespoke race management tool to give race engineers a 360 degree trackside perspective in each Grand Prix.

The software collation programme will integrate different information data streams from FIA and FOM, GPS positioning of cars on track, relative to the competition, plus FOM visual feeds to enable engineers optimise strategy.

UST Global will also have a strong visual presence within the team. Their identity will appear on VR-01 race car, the racesuit and paddock wear of drivers Timo Glock and Lucas di Grassi, team Laptops and clothing of race team and pit crew.

On Leander Sport’s role in the deal, Paes said he was very keen on seeing other sports in India develop through his company, allowing young athletes to follow their dreams.

“F1 is the epitome of engineering excellence and we are really proud to have arranged a deal between UST Global – a leading Indian IT services company and Virgin Racing - one of 13 teams on the grid. It’s a trailblazer and is the first of many sponsorship sourcing and sports marketing projects that Leander Sport is working on,” he said.

Graeme Lowdon, Virgin Racing’s Chief Executive Officer, said the company is delighted to welcome UST Global to Virgin Racing.

“We look forward to working with UST over the next few weeks to prepare for our debut race in Bahrain and the exciting 2010 season beyond. We thank Leander Sport for all the assistance provided in bringing this deal to a closure,” he said.

Joe Nalkara, President of the UST Global, said Formula 1 represents the pinnacle of racing and that Virgin Racing,like his firm, is a brand epitomising customer experience and relationships.

“We are both next generation companies throwing aside conventions to take on the establishment. These shared principles made it a natural choice for us to partner Virgin Racing over any other teams.”
