Mumbai: In bid to make commuting in BEST buses comfortable, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) is planning to have mobile ticketing services, which will allow any commuter to buy bus tickets initially through its website and mobile application in the days to come.
A presentation in this regard was made at the BEST headquarters on Thursday. According to DNA, the facility is most likely to be launched from November.
To be able to buy a ticket, a passenger has to feed in the boarding stop and his/her destination stop, thereafter the search engine will give out a list of buses on the route.
The next step would be to make payment using e-wallet. Once done, a confirmation SMS will be sent on to the mobile, which needs to be shared with the bus conductor who will verify it using hand-held ticketing issuing machines, the report said.
Along with this project, the BEST also plans to launch other projects to know status of the buses in the next phase.
To begin with only 15 buses will be covered and using a mobile application, commuters will be able to know if their chosen bus is punctual or delayed and in how time can they expect it to arrive.
The same system will also allow the user to know if the selected bus left moments ago, apart from displaying fare and having a dedicated grievance registering system.
It is only on the basis of success of this trial on 15 bus routes, a decision will be taken if it should be rolled out for close to all 500 bus routes that BEST operates in and around Mumbai.
