New Delhi: A 135-member BSF squad was today flagged off to Congo as part of a UN peacekeeping and policing mission to the central African nation.
The contingent was flagged off by BSF chief U K Bansal from the Border Security Force (BSF) headquarters here.
The squad has been trained in mob dispersal and riot control techniques, special driving skills, providing aid to civilian authorities and basics on human rights laws.
The Democratic Republic of Congo is the third largest country in Africa, bordering Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. Congo has been placed under the United Nations due to internal disturbances in the country.
"Apart from rendering your mandated duties you should also ensure that the Indian flag always flows high in that country. You should come back with your head held high," Bansal told the troopers as he extended his good wishes to them.
The squad is led by BSF Commandant Sukumar Sarengi.
This is the seventh consecutive contingent of BSF to Congo and it will be deployed for a period of one year in the African nation.
BSF contingents are also deployed in Colombo (Sri Lanka) and Haiti for similar purposes.
