New Delhi: According to an uncorroborated intelligence report, about 140 al-Qaeda terrorists have crossed into India and that was presumably the primary reason behind the weekend terror alert sounded by the government in Delhi.

The report by Assam intelligence wing suggests that the terrorists have sneaked through the western coasts of India in to Gujarat. The report also suggested that the terrorists might have used Sri Lankan Navy boats for sneaking into India though Navy has brushed aside these claims.

Though the reports were not corroborated, the security agencies didn’t want to leave anything to chance and the local administration and police forces have been asked to look for suspicious people and groups.

The Home Ministry had issued detailed alerts last Friday to the affected states, not wanting to take any chances. This is the second time in the past two weeks when the Centre has issued serious terror warnings to several states.

The Qaeda men have infiltrated into the states of Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
