New Delhi: With 22 fresh cases of dengue,
the total number of patients suffering from the vector-borne
disease in the national capital climbed to 992 on Saturday, even as
authorities hoped that its spread could be contained as the
mercury was showing a downward trend.

The city has reported over 360 cases of dengue in the
past 11 days.

"With 22 fresh positive cases of dengue, the total has
reached 992. There are 13 cases in which the infection has
been contracted from outside Delhi," Debashish Bhattacharya,
the Delhi government`s nodal officer for dengue, said to a news agency.

He hoped that as the mercury was showing a downward
trend, the spread of the disease could be contained.

The capital on Saturday reported the season`s lowest
temperature of 8.6 degree Celsius. Today`s minimum, which is
two degrees below normal at this point of the time, is the
lowest for the month of November in the past three years.

The city has reported two dengue deaths so far. On
October 23, a 15-year-old boy succumbed to the disease at
AIIMS while a nine-year-old boy breathed his last at the LNJP
hospital on October 26.
