New Delhi: A total of 23,075 personnel have
been rendered disabled while performing duties in the
different wars fought by the country, the government said Monday.
"There are 23,075 such personnel who were disabled in
wars and are granted war injury pension and retirement
gratuity," Defence Minister A K Antony said answering a
question in the Lok Sabha.
To another query, the minister said in the last four
years, 64 trainee officers were expelled from their respective
academies due to injuries received by them during training.
Of the officers, 62 were in Army's training academies
whereas none of the IAF cadets was expelled in the same period
on account of injuries.
Replying to another question, Antony said some personnel
of the armed forces have been arrested recently on charges of
passing unauthorised information and documents to foreign
intelligence officials.
He added that preventive measures based on the modus
operandi of the hostile forces are enforced and the counter
intelligence set-up of the armed forces is synergised on
regular basis to meet the challenges.
