23 Indian-origin figure in Queen`s New Year Honour List

London: Mark Ramprakash, a former English cricketer of Indian descent, is among the 23 people of Indian origin who figure in the Queen`s New Year Honours List 2013. 43-year-old Ramprakash, a right-handed batsman who played for England between 1991 and 2001, has been given the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to sport. Geetha Nagasubramanian, Consultant Gynaecologist and head of Service, Tower Hamlets Contraception and Sexual Health Services, also gets an MBE for services to Women and Young People. Vina Mayor, Chair, Nursing and Midwifery Council Fitness to Practice Panel, Bedfordshire, also gets the same honour for services to the National Health Service (NHS). Others who figure in the honours list are Mridul Hegde, Director, Financial Stability, HM Treasury, services to the Stabilisation of the British Banking system (CB-Order of Bath), Dhruv Manmohan Sawhney, formerly chairman, International Liaison Group of the Duke of Edinburgh`s Commonwealth Study Conference (LVO-Royal Victorian Order) and Rustom Tata, Partner, DMH Stallard gets (MVO-Royal Victorian Order). Dipak Kumar Fakey got OBE (Order of the British Empire) for services to Education and to Community Cohesion in Leicester, along with Professor Mala Rao, Services to Public Health in the UK and Overseas, Professor Bhupinder Kaur Sandhu, Professor of Paediatric Gasteroenterology and Nutrition, Bristol Royal Hospital, South West, services to Paeditric Medicine. The recipient of MBE included Santosh Fenwick, Senior Executive Officer, DWP Operations, services to jobseekers in West London, Mahendra Gajjar, Officer, Small and Medium Enterprises, London, HM Revenue and Customs, services to Tax and Duty Fraud Prevention and to the community in Edgware, Inderjeet Hunjan, Head of Access and Widening Participation Team, Leeds Metropolitan Universkty, services to Higher Education, Hariprakash Mamtora, Consultant Radiologist, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, Salford, Lancashire, services to the NHS. Daksha Joshi, gets BEM for services to the community in Strand on the Green, London Borough of Hounslow while Jit Pal is chosen for the same honour for services to charity and to the community in Southall London Borough of Ealing. Cherie Blair, wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, got a CBE for services to Women`s issues and to charity in the UK and Overseas. Lord Sebastian Coe, Chair of London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games, got Order of the Companions of Honour (CH) for services to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. PTI
