Kolkata: The Left Front in West Bengal
on Tuesday announced a 40-day campaign followed by a "massive"
gathering to protest against price rise, corruption and
"anarchy" allegedly unleashed by the Trinamool in the state.
"We will hold the campaign across all districts from
January four to February 12 which will culminate in a massive
rally at the Brigade Parade Ground in the city," Left Front
chairman Biman Bose told newspersons here.
"Increase in petroleum product prices and other
essential commodities has become a burning issue," Bose said.
Saying that the campaign would also target corruption,
he said, "A huge amount of money which could have otherwise
gone to government coffers have gone to some individuals`
pockets."
Bose said that the Left Front had also discussed in
its meeting today some recent happenings in the state relating
to violence in educational institutions.
"Trinamool Congress is perpetrating violence out of
desperation," Bose claimed while referring to the recent
incidents of violence leading to the death of one and serious
injury to another college student.
With Assembly elections in the state due by May next
year, he said that the Front has decided to pay special
attention to women and hold meetings for women only.
"All Left women`s organisations have been asked to
hold meetings for women only during this period," he said.
