held along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Assam and Meghalaya
in 2009 while nine persons were killed.

The nine deaths apparently caused due to firing by forces
took place between January and December 22 along the border,
the BSF said in a statement.

Thirty-two militants and 42 linkmen of different militant
outfits were apprehended during border patrolling and
counter-insurgency operations along Assam-Meghalaya frontiers
while ten gave themselves up around the time, the statement
said.

Nine militants belonging to Muslim fundamentalist
organisations were also caught on the border and several arms
and explosives were recovered, it added.

Fake Indian currency, having the face value of Rs 1.07
lakh besides cattle, worth Rs 51 crore, being smuggled into
Bangladesh were seized, during the time.
