In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Defence Minister AK Antony said, "A total of 7099 Army personnel are currently deployed in these mission... Total number of Indian Army personnel killed during last three years in UN Peacekeeping Missions has been 10."
Seven personnel were killed in peacekeeping mission in Congo, two in Sudan and one in Lebanon.
"An amount of USD 70,000 is paid to the next of kin in death cases, whereas disability compensation is decided as per the degree of disability suffered by a soldier on active duty in UN Peacekeeping Operations," he said.
Maximum number of 3,770 personnel are deployed in Congo followed by 2,227 in South Sudan. Under the Observer Missions in East Timor, Ivory Coast and Sudan, one, nine and two personnel are deployed respectively.
Replying to a question on complaints regarding Army recruitment rallies, Antony said, "During the last year the current year, five cases/complaints relating to involvement of middlemen including a case of fake domicile certificate racket in National Capital Region of Delhi have been reported."
Appropriate action through the police has been taken in four cases, and in one case the individual has been advised to file FIR against the tout, he said.
In reply to a question on recommendations of the Kargil Review Committee (KRC), Antony said 63 of the 75 recommendations have been implemented.
"The Report of the Group of Ministers on National Security constituted on the basis of the Kargil Review Committee report had six chapters.
"The Ministry of Defence had been nominated as the nodal Ministry for chapter VI, on Management of Defence. The chapter contains 75 recommendations, of which 63 have been implemented," he said.
Action on four recommendations is in progress.
"Eight recommendations of Chapter VI relate to the establishment of Chief of Defence Staff," he said, adding that "the decision on this matter will be taken after completion of the ongoing consultations with political parties."
New Delhi: Indian Army has deployed 7,099 personnel in various peacekeeping missions under the United Nations flag and 10 of its men were killed in last three years during these operations, government said on Monday.
